Gareth Bale has reportedly held talks with Cardiff City manager Steve Morison over a summer move as his time at Real Madrid draws to a close.

According to Wales Online, soon-to-be free agent Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale has held talks with Cardiff City manager Steve Morison over a potential transfer this summer.

Bale’s time at Real Madrid will come to an end in a week, with the club already having confirmed that the Welsh international will depart as a free agent when his contract expires on June 30. Having joined the Spanish giants in 2013 from Tottenham Hotspur, the 32-year-old has had a topsy-turvy stint at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Bale played an integral role in the success that Real Madrid enjoyed in the first half of his tenure at the club, scoring crucial goals in the finals of the UEFA Champions League and Copa del Rey. However, the Welsh wing-wizard had a falling out with former manager Zinedine Zidane which ensured that he spent the last few seasons as a bit-part player.

A moderately successful loan spell at Tottenham in 2020/21 prompted Carlo Ancelotti to bank on him for the last season. However, fitness problems meant that Bale was once again hardly involved. The winger will now bring an end to his time at the Spanish capital club, and a return to British shores is on the cards for the winger.

There have been reports of interest from his boyhood club Southampton, while at the same time, Welsh outfit Cardiff City are also said to be keen. And now, as per the report from Wales Online, Bale could be seriously considering joining the EFL Championship outfit as he has held talks with the Bluebirds’ manager, Steve Morison.

The report states that Bale met with Morison at Cardiff’s Vale of Glamorgan HQ on Wednesday morning, where talks were held, and the subject of his future was broached. It has previously been suggested that Cardiff City have already offered him a two-year contract and are awaiting a decision from the Welsh international.

Even though Championship football will be a major drop in level for Bale, a move to his hometown club is very much on the cards as he plans to stay fit and in shape by playing regularly ahead of the FIFA World Cup later this year. The winger is expected to decide on his future in the coming days, and it will be interesting to see where the Real Madrid outcast ends up.
