Official: Liverpool sign Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen

Liverpool have completed the signing of Scottish prodigy Calvin Ramsay, who arrives from Aberdeen on a long-term contract.

As confirmed by the club’s official website, Liverpool have finalised the third signing of the summer transfer window as they have completed the capture of Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen.

Ramsay is a product of the Aberdeen youth setup and broke into the senior team in March last year. The young right-back became a regular in the side this past season, featuring 33 times in all competitions while contributing with a goal and nine assists. The 18-year-old has also made three appearances for the Scottish Under-21 national team.

Liverpool had been in talks to sign Ramsay for a while now while other Premier League clubs such as Tottenham, Newcastle and Leeds United were also keen on the teenage prodigy. However, the Reds have been able to beat the competition from their rivals.

Reports earlier this week confirmed that Liverpool had agreed a deal worth £4 million with Aberdeen over the transfer of Ramsay. And the Merseysiders have now confirmed the signing of the 18-year-old following a successful medical at the club’s AXA Training Centre.

“I’m just buzzing and it’s a dream come true really to be here. It was a dream come true to play for Aberdeen, and now to be at one of the biggest, if not the biggest club in the world, it’s a massive achievement and I’m looking forward to trying to show the fans what I’ve got,” Ramsay said, in his first interview as a Liverpool player.

“Hopefully, I can come in in pre-season, show everyone at the club, the staff, players what I’ve got and then we’ll see what happens from there,” the 18-year-old, who won the Scottish Football Writers’ Association’s Young Player of the Year award.

Ramsay becomes the third major signing of Liverpool this summer, following in the footsteps of Fabio Carvalho, who will be joining from Fulham on July 1 and Darwin Nunez, who recently signed from SL Benfica in a mega-money deal

The 18-year-old has signed a long-term contract with Liverpool and is expected to provide cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold in the right-back position at Anfield.
