Everton in transfer tussle to sign Hamza Choudhury

Fulham set to sign Ernest Nuamah, beat Everton to deal.

Everton are reportedly interested in a summer move for 24-year-old Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury.

According to Daily Mirror, Merseyside outfit Everton are keen to raid fellow Premier League side Leicester City for Hamza Choudhury in the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old came through the ranks at Leicester, making his first-team bow for the Foxes in 2015. Choudhury has since made 84 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring two goals and assisting two other strikers.

A defensive midfielder, Choudhury can also do a job as a central midfielder and a centre-back. An all-action player, he is a physical presence in the middle of the pitch and is not afraid to get stuck in when needed. He is far from a regular under Brendan Rodgers and was limited to a mere 12 appearances last season.

At 24, Choudhury should be playing regularly, and seeking a move elsewhere to achieve just that might not be a bad idea. Everton are looking to rebuild their squad under Frank Lampard, and the central midfield is an area that needs to be reinforced.

Choudhury might not be a world-beater but has enough ability and is proven in the Premier League. More so, featuring under one of the league’s greatest midfielders in Lampard at Everton could be just what the Leicester City man needs to get his career back on track.

Conceding goals has been a major source of concern for the Toffees, who ended up with the fifth-worst defensive record in the Premier League last season. Bringing in Choudhury would provide the Everton backline added protection through the midfield.

While the English youth international could improve the Merseyside club, he is far from a talent to make a telling difference to them. The fact that he is not making the first XI regularly at Leicester could prove to be something worth looking into. Everton can do with a player who performs on the pitch with minimal fuss and does not potentially give them reasons to worry about off the field.

Newly promoted Nottingham Forest are also keen on signing Choudhury. With Youri Tielemans apparently on his way out despite latest developments on Arsenal’s front, it remains to be seen if Rodgers will renew his faith in Choudhury or move the 24-year-old on in the summer.
