Premier League side Leeds United are reportedly eyeing Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge to replace Kalvin Phillips, who could soon join Manchester City.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, Leeds United are targeting a move for Sheffield United’s 24-year-old midfielder Sander Berge, who they hope will replace Kalvin Phillips. The English midfielder is being linked with a move away from the club, with Manchester City interested in securing his signature in the summer transfer window.

The Whites were hoping they can convince Phillips to stay at the club if they manage to stay afloat in the Premier League. However, despite surviving relegation, there is a growing feeling around Leeds United that the English midfielder will be allowed to leave, with Manchester City especially interested in his signature.

The report claims that Manchester City are expected to make a move for the 26-year-old in the coming weeks with a hefty transfer fee being quoted. The Premier League champions will be without Fernandinho from the upcoming season, and Ilkay Gundogan has also been linked with an exit, with Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma said to be monitoring his situation.

The German midfielder’s departure will leave Manchester City seriously short-handed in the midfield department, and they have thus identified Phillips as the perfect signing. The English international has seen his stock rise in the past couple of years. The Leeds midfielder was a shining light for the Three Lions at UEFA Euro 2020, helping them reach the final of the competition.

With Phillips’s possible departure, Leeds United are looking at options to replace him in the midfield. Bayern Munich’s Marc Roca is reportedly set to join the Whites in a £10 million deal, as per the BBC. But the West Yorkshire club are aiming for yet another midfield addition, and Berge has emerged as an option.

The Norway international joined Sheffield United from KRC Genk in the 2020 January transfer window and has since made 66 appearances for the Blades, scoring eight and assisting six goals. The 24-year-old is currently valued at £25 million as per the report, and no other club is currently interested in the midfielder.

Berge has previous experience in the Premier League, and securing his services could be a step in the right direction for Leeds. It will be interesting to see if the Norwegian midfielder arrives from Sheffield United this summer to replace the Manchester City-bound Kalvin Phillips.
