Arsenal reach full agreement to sign Fabio Vieira

Arsenal offer €47 million to sign Chelsea target Riccardo Calafiori, told to pay more.

Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of signing FC Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira, having agreed full agreement with the Portuguese club.

During Arsenal’s prime, Vieira had been a household name at the north London outfit. And more than a decade after the revered French midfielder decided to move on from the club, Arsenal fans can once again have the opportunity to chant the name at the Emirates, as the Gunners close in on the capture of Fabio Vieira, reports Fabrizio Romano.

Currently plying his trade for FC Porto, Patrick Vieira’s namesake could soon be set for a move to north London as Arsenal have reached full agreement with his parent club. The 22-year-old has already agreed personal terms with the Gunners, and he could be set for a medical at the Emirates this Friday.

Upon confirmation, Vieira is set to become Arsenal’s third signing of the summer after Matt Turner and Marquinhos. Many would argue this is the first major investment from the club in a player this summer, considering the fact that they are expected to pay a fortune to secure the services of Vieira.

Although he may have no direct links with Patrick Vieira, Fabio Vieira is a midfielder by trade and has enjoyed stellar success at Porto over the past couple of years. At the age of just 22, the Portuguese midfielder has racked up ten goals and 18 assists in 76 competitive outings, emerging as one of the rising stars in Portuguese football.

Standing at just 1.70m, Vieira is a technically-astute playmaker who relies heavily on his close control and ability to squeeze past tight spaces. The 22-year-old is adept at finding balls behind the backline while his low center of gravity allows him to effortlessly beat defenders in the final third.

Boasting the services of Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith Rowe, and Bukayo Saka, Arsenal have no shortage of attacking options who excel in tight spaces. But it appears Mikel Arteta is keen on adding more depth to the side as his team looks to launch a challenge for the top four places in the coming season.

In addition to signing a playmaker, Arsenal are looking to enhance their options in the goalscoring department. They are reportedly in the pole position to sign Manchester City’s wantaway striker Gabriel Jesus, who could potentially become the club’s fourth signing of the new season.
