Tottenham are reportedly set to hold fresh talks with Torino in the coming days to iron out a deal for Brazilian defensive powerhouse Gleison Bremer.
According to Italian publication Tuttosport, as relayed by Milan News.it, Tottenham Hotspur and Torino are reportedly set to meet to chalk out the transfer details for 25-year-old Brazilian defensive stalwart Gleison Bremer amidst heavy interest from both Milan clubs.
Tottenham have wasted little time getting the pieces in place to oversee a successful summer window. Ivan Perisic has already been signed on a Bosman move as their first outfield capture and the 33-year-old is expected to assume the left wing-back role. Fraser Forster has also arrived as the backup goalkeeper.
Another position Antonio Conte is keen to address is centre-half. Considering the Italian coach deploys a back three, strength in depth is vital. There has been increased speculation about a move for either Torino’s Bremer or Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni. However, links to Bremer have been put on the back-burner, with Bastoni said to be the number one transfer target for Spurs.
Reports from Italy suggested that Inter are close to sealing a deal to sign Bremer as the readymade replacement for Bastoni if the latter were to leave. However, according to Tuttosport, the Lilywhites may yet put a spanner in the works by hijacking Inter’s move for Bremer.
Having dealt a setback in Bastoni’s pursuit, Tottenham are considering a summer move for Bremer and have scheduled a transfer meeting with Torino’s sporting director Davide Vagnati, who will fly to London in the next few days to work out a favourable deal if possible.
Torino finished 10th in Serie A, but they had the best defensive record outside of the top four clubs in terms of goals conceded. A major reason for that has been the displays from Bremer. The 25-year-old is one of the hottest commodities this summer following an outstanding Serie A season in which he established himself as one of the league’s best defenders and was deservedly crowned the Serie A Defender of the Year.
To date, the Brazilian has made over 100 appearances for I Granata since joining the club from Atlético Mineiro in 2018. As he approaches his prime years, the 25-year-old is ready to take the next step in his career by joining an elite club contending for big trophies.
As such, he has no shortage of suitors with a host of Serie A clubs, including Juventus and Milan, keeping track of his situation. But the Italian clubs do not seem to possess the financial means to tempt Torino to sell their prized asset. Tottenham, contrary to the Serie A teams, can match Torino’s asking price, and Bremer would be an excellent addition to Conte’s defensive core.
The Brazilian is a well-rounded, physical defender who is dominant aerially and adept at performing defensive duties, as well as being comfortable with the ball at his feet. The player continues to give his preference to stay in Italy. Tottenham, therefore, have some convincing to do to get this one over the line.
