Tottenham are reportedly interested in Gerard Deulofeu, with the Spanish winger likely to be on the move this summer.
According to Corriere Dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham are exploring the idea of signing Gerard Deulofeu in the summer, with the forward being considered a good option for Antonio Conte’s squad. Udinese could be prepared to sell the Spaniard if an offer close to €20 million arrives.
Some talented players are perceived as journeymen for the long list of clubs they have played for. Gerard Deulofeu is one such star who has been on the move since leaving Barcelona at a young age. The 28-year-old has had stints at Everton, Sevilla, AC Milan and Watford before he ended up at Udinese.
However, the winger, who has morphed himself into a centre-forward, could again be on the move this summer, with many clubs interested in the Spaniard. Tottenham are the latest to come into the equation, as the Udinese star is being looked at to add quality to this Spurs team.
Deulofeu has been at Udinese since the summer window of 2020 and has settled in well at the Italian club. Last season, the former Barcelona attacker managed 13 goals and five assists for the Serie A side, which has prompted them to value him at around €20 million. However, the Italians are reportedly open to a sale and could shake hands over a move for €18 million.
Conte does not particularly need a new winger, although the Italian could look for a Steven Bergwijn replacement. If the Dutchman is to depart, there will be a slight shortage of attacking options in the squad, and Deulofeu could be the ideal reinforcement.
There have been strong links to Everton forward Richarlison, but the Brazilian could cost as much as €75 million, making Deulofeu a cost-effective option for Tottenham.
Moreover, for Udinese, Deulofeu has played more in the centre-forward role, which could let Conte think of him as a solid, versatile option in the front three. With Spurs playing Champions League football next season, the Italian manager will need quality squad depth to compete on all fronts.
Deulofeu could be a good option and might thrive on his return to England. The Spaniard is only 28 and could go on to enjoy a successful stint at Tottenham if they manage to sign him eventually.
