Arsenal in transfer tussle to sign Giovanni Simeone

Arsenal offer €47 million to sign Chelsea target Riccardo Calafiori, told to pay more.

Giovanni Simeone is reportedly linked with a move to Arsenal, currently chasing a host of names in the market to fill the No.9 position.

According to Fichajes, Giovanni Simeone is the latest name to be linked with a move to Arsenal, as Mikel Arteta’s search for a new striker continues. The Gunners are in the market chasing several options, and the Argentine international, valued at around €20 million, is the newest player on their radar.

Arsenal are stepping up their efforts to sign a new striker this summer. Their search has reached many avenues in the last few months, with Mikel Arteta seeking the perfect forward to suit his style and system. Giovanni Simeone is the latest name to emerge on their radar, with the Argentine international set for a big transfer.

Someone has not necessarily featured for a ‘big club’ since breaking out in his senior career. However, the striker may feel the time may be right to do so and has the numbers from last season to back up his ambition. He scored 17-goals in Serie A last season, spent with Hellas Verona.

The Italian side are about to exercise their €12 million buy option on his loan deal, and if there are offers in the market, they could look to sell for a modest profit, and they will reportedly seek at least €20 million. It would be great for the Serie A club, who are seeking funds.

However, there are concerns about this story, as this could be coming from the Italian media. Arsenal are linked with Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo, so the connection with Serie A’s strikers could be the main angle here. The chances of Arteta wanting Simeone are remote as things stand, as the Arsenal manager chases some high-profile names, although there are other clubs keeping tabs on the Argentine.

Gabriel Jesus is the priority target for Arsenal, although they linked with other players as well. The Gunners may have looked to sign two forwards had Eddie Nketiah left in the summer on a free transfer, but the striker is still negotiating with the club over the latest offer.

As things stand, Simeone may not be an actual target and is only connected due to media links. However, the Argentine international could still leave Verona in a €20 million deal in the summer as he harbours ambitions of playing for a team that competes for trophies and honours.
