West Ham United in talks for Becir Omeragic

West Ham United in advanced talks to sign Ibrahim Osman.

Premier League side West Ham United are reportedly in talks to sign FC Zurich centre-back Becir Omeragic.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, West Ham United are among the teams interested in FC Zurich’s 20-year-old centre-back Becir Omeragic. The youngster is also being tracked by FC Torino in Italy, after being linked with a January move to AC Milan.

Omeragic moved to FC Zurich from his youth club Servette FC in 2018. He was slowly embedded into the first team and has now become one of the first names on the teamsheet. In four years, the defender has made 84 appearances for the Swiss side, playing at centre-back and defensive midfield as well.

The youngster has a lot of scope to improve with age on his side, and his recent development has caught the eyes of several European clubs. Torino and West Ham are among the teams to be tracking his situation with now just a year remaining on his contract with Zurich.

Torino are searching for a replacement for outgoing centre-back Gleison Bremer, who is reportedly closing in on a €30 million move to Inter Milan. Tottenham Hotspur were said to be heavily interested in the Brazilian, but the Nerazzurri are seemingly set to trump them for his signature. Chelsea, too, were monitoring his situation.

Bremer has been a standout performer for Torino recently and is considered one of the best centre-backs in Serie A. Thus, replacing him will be a tough task for the Turin-based outfit. And while that wasn’t already enough, they will also need to fend off interest from other clubs in the race for Omeragic, with West Ham United being one of them.

David Moyes’ side have initiated talks to sign Omeragic. They are eager to strengthen their defensive department this summer amid Issa Diop’s uncertain future and Angelo Ogbonna’s advancing age. The 20-year-old Omeragic would add to their options in the centre-back department, and be a prospect for the future. His versatility adds to his profile, and that could come in handy for West Ham United.

Capped four times by the Switzerland national team, Omeragic has displayed plenty of potential in his fledgeling career. With just a year remaining on the player’s contract, there is little clarity over the transfer fee that FC Zurich would demand for his signature.
