Tottenham Hotspur’s advancements to sign Marcus Rashford have been rejected by Manchester United.
The Times report that Manchester United have turned down Tottenham Hotspur’s approach to sign Marcus Rashford this summer. Spurs are in the market for a versatile forward, who can play across the frontline, and believe Rashford fits the bill.
The England international has had his worst season in a Manchester United shirt since breaking on the scene for them as an 18-year-old in the 2015/16 season. In his first-ever Premier League season with the Red Devils, Rashford had scored five goals and provided two assists and followed it up with a similar season in terms of output.
This season, however, after missing the start of the season, he managed just four league goals, often finding himself on the bench. He made the starting XI in just 13 Premier League matches this season, with Anthony Elanga preferred over him by interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
Reports from English media had claimed that Rashford was considering his Manchester United future after a drastic fall in his game-time under the German tactician. The likes of Arsenal and West Ham United were also linked with a move for the player, while Tottenham were also interested in the Englishman and even launched an approach for him.
But all those rumours have now been put to rest. Manchester United are set to begin a new era under manager Erik ten Hag, who seems keen to keep hold of Rashford. The 24-year-old academy graduate, too, is eager to prove his critics wrong after a dismal 2021/22 campaign and wants to stay at Old Trafford.
Tottenham were targeting Rashford with an eye on completing their homegrown quota as well. But with Manchester United knocking back their approach in a swift manner, the Lilywhites will now have to look elsewhere.
Antonio Conte’s side are actively looking to add reinforcements in multiple positions. Tottenham have already completed two signings ahead of the new season. Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan and Fraser Forster from Southampton have both joined the club on free transfers. Spurs are being heavily linked with Inter’s Alessandro Bastoni as well, who played under Conte in the Nerazzurri’s Serie A-winning 2020/21 campaign.
