Arsenal preparing formal approach for Gianluca Scamacca

Arsenal offer €47 million to sign Chelsea target Riccardo Calafiori, told to pay more.

Arsenal are reportedly planning to launch an official approach to try and secure the signing of Gianluca Scamacca from Serie A side Sassuolo.

According to 90 Min, Arsenal are preparing to make a formal approach to Italian outfit Sassuolo as they explore the possibility of signing Gianluca Scamacca in the summer transfer window.

After spending time at the youth setups of Lazio, AS Roma and PSV Eindhoven, Scamacca has been with Sassuolo since 2017. The striker has spent a considerable time away on loan, having had stints with Cremonense, PEC Zwolle, Ascoli and Genoa. He became a regular part of the first-team setup for the Neroverdi during the 2021/22 campaign and enjoyed a productive run.

Scamacca finished his first full season with Sassuolo’s first team with a tally of 16 goals from 36 league outings, which has also helped him earn a spot in the Italian national team. And the hitman’s performances for his club have put him on the radars of a giant of the English game in Arsenal.

Arsenal are in the market for at least one new top centre-forward heading into the summer. Having sold Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January, the Gunners lost Alexandre Lacazette on a Bosman deal, with the striker confirming his return to Olympique Lyon. It has left Eddie Nketiah as the only senior striker at Mikel Arteta’s disposal, with the academy graduate expected to pen a new deal.

Arsenal are scouring the market for attacking reinforcements, as a result, and have narrowed in on multiple options. Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus has emerged as a top target, and a deal for the Brazilian was believed to be close. However, the entry of other clubs like Chelsea and Real Madrid into the picture has cast doubts over the move, leading to the Gunners looking at other alternatives.

One such player who Mikel Arteta’s side are looking to sign now is Gianluca Scamacca. The 23-year-old is held in high regard at Sassuolo, while Arsenal director Edu also rates the forward highly. Having done his homework on the striker, the former Gunners star is planning to launch a move for the 23-year-old Italian international imminently, having held talks with intermediaries.

Sassuolo, for their part, are open to selling Scamacca amid widespread interest. The striker had signed a new contract with the club only in April earlier this year but could be sold for £35 million as per the report. Arsenal will want to get their transfer business done in time for the pre-season and Scamacca could end up being one of the first arrivals of the summer at the Emirates.
