Premier League side Newcastle United are reportedly in talks with Red Bull Salzburg to secure the services of 19-year-old prodigious playmaker Luka Sucic.
According to Football Transfers, Luka Sucic is the subject of interest from cash-rich Newcastle United over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Magpies have been in contact with the 19-year-old’s representatives since last year and are apparently ready to intensify their pursuit of the €20 million-rated midfielder.
In the second stage of this exciting rebuild of the North East club, the upcoming summer transfer window has been earmarked for a major rebuild at Newcastle United as the club seeks to reach greater heights and achieve bigger ambitions under their new ownership. The Toon hierarchy are on the lookout for a young, creative and goalscoring player for Eddie Howe’s midfield.
But Newcastle have been unsuccessful in their bids to sign Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig and Nicolo Zaniolo from AS Roma thus far, with both regarded as indispensable assets by their respective clubs. However, it appears Newcastle have now turned their attentions toward Red Bull Salzburg’s talented midfielder, Luka Sucic.
The link between Newcastle and Sucic originated last year. The Croatian international is represented by the same agents as former Freiburg centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck, who was contacted by the Magpies about a move prior to the January transfer window.
The 19-year-old progressed through the famed Salzburg youth system, playing for the club’s feeder team Liefering until breaking into the first team in 2020. Since then, Sucic has amassed 69 appearances for Salzburg, notching up 13 goals in the process.
A versatile, skilful left-footed player who can operate as a central midfielder or further forward as a no.10, Sucic is coming off an impressive season with the Austrian giants, bagging 11 goals and five assists across all competitions, as well as featuring in the UEFA Champions League quite extensively.
The youngster is already a full-fledged Croatian international. While Newcastle’s interest has not been well publicised, his stellar displays for both club and country have subsequently attracted other clubs. Liverpool, for one, have been linked with the midfield gem in the past, but have cooled their interest recently.
While Newcastle are bound to be linked with high-profile names, they still have to create a sustainable business and work under FFP regulations. Dan Ashworth & co. will undoubtedly be seeking to invest in rough diamonds for the future rather than big-money stars for the here and now, and Sucic would certainly fit that description.
His style of play has striking similarities with that of Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic. Also, Sucic is no slouch either, with an impeccable work rate off-the-ball. The 19-year-old has tremendous potential, and despite the fact that his contract with Salzburg expires in 2025, they are in discussions with Newcastle over a potential move.

The ball is very much in Salzburg’s court, but they are in no rush to sell their prized asset, having already sold Karim Adeyemi for a nice profit. The report claims he could be available for a fee in the region of €20 million. Whether Newcastle match the asking price to bring the teenage sensation to the Premier League remains to be seen.
