Manchester United have confirmed that Paul Pogba will depart from Old Trafford as a free agent when his contract expires on June 30.

Manchester United have made an official statement to confirm that Paul Pogba’s time at the club has ended for a second time. The French international will depart from Old Trafford as a free agent when his contract expires on June 30.

The curtains will fall on Paul Pogba’s second stint with Manchester United next month, with the spell arguably being underwhelming for both parties. While Pogba blew hot and cold throughout the six-year stay at Old Trafford after returning with a then world-record €100 million move, the instability at Manchester United did not help the player’s case either.

Pogba still showed that he could produce magical moments on the pitch, making his mark by single-handedly delivering match-winning performance. That was also on display on the first day of the 2021/22 season, as Pogba supplied four assists to guide Manchester United to a comfortable win over Leeds United.

But as Manchester United’s season spiralled out of control, so did Pogba’s with poor form and fitness woes compounding his issues. The 29-year-old made over 200 appearances for Manchester United while chipping in with 33 goals and 51 assists. During his stay at Manchester United, Pogba also experienced success at the international level, winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup with France.

However, as the season progressed, it became abundantly clear that Pogba did not wish to stay put at Manchester United beyond the summer transfer window. The French international was vocal in his dissatisfaction at Old Trafford while also admitting to suffering from depression during his spell with the English club.

Meanwhile, Pogba and his agent, the late Mino Raiola’s outspoken natures did not win over many admirers, with Manchester United legends often slamming his behaviour. And now, the chaotic and an arguably unsuccessful stint will end in July, when Pogba officially becomes a free agent at the expiration of his contract.

Pogba has had no shortage of suitors vying for his signature, with the French midfielder linked with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich in recent months. But a return to Juventus seems to be on the cards for the 29-year-old, and he will hope his second coming in Turin will be more satisfactory.
