Aston Villa are reportedly considering a move for Anderlecht’s Spanish full-back Sergio Gomez.

According to The Athletic, Aston Villa are in the market to sign a back-up left-back and have identified Anderlecht’s Sergio Gomez as a possible option. The Midlands outfit are eager to strengthen multiple positions and have already begun completing deals ahead of the new season.

Aston Villa wish to add a midfielder, a striker and a left-footed defender in the summer transfer window and have earmarked their targets. The Premier League side have already completed three signings, but there are other names on their wishlist as well.

As far as the left-back position is concerned, Aston Villa want to add a back-up for first-choice Lucas Digne and have shortlisted a few names. Bologna’s Aaron Hickey was on their radar, but the Italian side’s £20 million valuation has put them off and the Premier League side have reportedly cooled their interest in the Scotland international.

With Aston Villa on the lookout for cheaper options, Anderlecht’s Sergio Gomez’s name has popped up. The 21-year-old moved to Anderlecht just last season and still has over three years remaining on his contract with the Belgian side. But if Aston Villa seriously pursue Gomez, the Spanish left-back could come in for a much lesser transfer fee than their other options.

Rangers’ Calvin Bassey is on their radar as well. Gerrard brought the 22-year-old to Scotland from Leicester City, but he could prove to be costly as well. Aston Villa, however, are inclined to sign versatile players this summer and Bassey’s ability to play as a left-sided centre-back could make him the priority signing.

Aston Villa are also said to be interested in adding a striker this window. Former Barcelona & Liverpool superstar Luis Suarez’s name has been suggested. The Uruguayan international will be a free agent next month when his contract with Atletico Madrid expires. Gerrard has been in contact with his former Liverpool teammate, but Suarez is yet to make a call.

Aston Villa have already signed Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona, making his loan move permanent. Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara and Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos have also been added to their squad.
