Barcelona defender Oscar Mingueza has reportedly been offered to La Liga club Getafe, with the Catalans keen to rake in €5-10 million for his services.
According to AS, La Liga outfit Getafe have been offered an opportunity to sign Barcelona defender Oscar Mingueza in the upcoming summer transfer window, as the Catalans look to offload the 23-year-old.
A product of Barcelona’s La Masia academy, Mingueza got his big breakthrough with the first team in 2020/21 under Ronald Koeman. The defender, who can play at centre-back or right-back, featured regularly in the second half of the 2020/21 term and saw plenty of game-time in the early stages of the 2021/22 season.
However, the appointment of Xavi Hernandez in November last year saw Mingueza drop down the pecking order at the club and struggle for game-time. He featured just 19 times in La Liga in the season gone by, of which only nine were from the start.
Barcelona are planning for a huge summer, but need to offload some players before they can kickstart their rebuild. And Mingueza has been identified as one of the dispensable members of the squad with the Catalan giants looking to offload the academy graduate in the hope of earning around €5-10 million for the 23-year-old.
Mingueza’s representatives are already looking for a new club for the defender and he has now been offered to Getafe ahead of the summer window. The Madrilenian outfit will be losing Jorge Cuenca, whose loan deal expires imminently, following which he will return to parent club Villarreal.
On top of that, Erick Cabaco’s future at Getafe is also a doubt, which means that Los Azulones can do with the addition of another centre-half before next season. At the same time, with right-back Damian Suarez entering the final phase of his career at 34, Mingueza can double up as cover for him as well.
Getafe are yet to decide on the proposal but are considering the possibility of signing Mingueza. However, the La Liga club would prefer a loan deal. Barcelona, for their part, would be open to sanctioning a loan move with an option of a permanent transfer for a fee of around €5-10 million. It will be interesting to see if a transfer materialises before the next season kicks off.
