Serie A side Fiorentina are reportedly interested in signing Edinson Cavani, who is set to leave Manchester United.
According to Calciomercato, Fiorentina are among the two Serie A clubs interested in getting Edinson Cavani on board. The Uruguayan forward’s contract with Manchester United expires this summer, and the two parties have decided against a renewal, meaning Cavani’s two-year stint with the club is set to come to an end.
Cavani joined Manchester United in the 2020 summer transfer window on a Bosman move and quickly became a fan favourite due to his willingness to give everything on the pitch for the team’s cause. He scored 17 goals across competitions for the Red Devils, on top of six assists.
The 37-year-old signed a one-year extension with Manchester United, but Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival and recurring injury issues cut down on the Uruguayan forward’s game time. Cavani made just 20 appearances for the club across competitions and did not even cross 1000 minutes of playing time.
The two-year-long association between the two parties is set to come to an end, with Cavani deciding to move on from Manchester United. He is not short of potential suitors, however, with a return to Serie A on the cards as well.
Passing on words of wisdom.

Cavani grew into a world-beater during his time with Napoli in the Serie A. In 137 appearances for the Italian giants, the Uruguayan striker scored 104 goals and built a cult following before moving to Paris Saint-Germain in 2013.
Cavani continued his goalscoring form in France as well, and in seven seasons with the Parisians, he reached the 200-goal mark and finished as their greatest goal-scorer of all time. Now, as per the aforementioned report, Cavani could be on his way back to Italy after leaving Manchester United.
Fiorentina are eager to sign the Manchester United forward on a free deal to replace Krzysztof Piatek, whose loan deal with La Viola has come to an end. However, Cavani’s high wages could become an issue for them. The 37-year-old was on an almost €13 million a year contract with Manchester United, a figure Fiorentina would struggle to match.
Salernitana, who narrowly avoided relegation this term, are also keen on signing the veteran striker. But again, they will not be able to match Cavani’s current wages. The likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been linked with a summer move for Cavani.
