Newly-promoted Premier League side Fulham are reportedly interested in signing outgoing Manchester United midfielder, Nemanja Matic.
The Sun have reported that Fulham have identified Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic as a possible summer signing. The Cottagers gained promotion to the Premier League after topping the Championship table with 90 points in 46 matches.
Matic is set to part ways with Manchester United after a five-year association, having joined from Chelsea in 2017. The veteran midfielder has since made 189 appearances for the club, scoring four times and assisting 11 goals.
But with his contract expiring this summer, the 33-year-old has decided to move on rather than extend his stay with the Manchester United. Matic will thus be available for a Bosman move, which could be beneficial for Fulham.
“After a great deal of thought, I have decided that this season will be my last with Manchester United,” Matic wrote in his farewell message for the club before adding, “I have informed the board, the manager and the players of my decision. It has been a huge honour and a privilege to play for this great club. A big thank you to the fans for their unwavering support. I will now give everything until the end of the season to help my teammates finish as strongly as possible.”
With his Manchester United stint coming to an end, Fulham are eager to keep Matic in the Premier League. The London giants believe an experienced player at the heart of the midfield could help them stay in the English top-flight for a longer duration than they have managed in the recent past.
Matic has spent nine seasons in the Premier League, four with Chelsea in two different stints and five with Manchester United. In all, he has made 251 appearances in the English top-flight and has won the league title thrice, all with the Blues.
The veteran midfielder could not win anything with the Red Devils, however, with a Europa League runners-up medal the closest he came to winning a silverware at the club. As Fulham prepare to return to the Premier League, they have been linked with Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha and West Ham United right-back Ryan Fredericks. And Matic could also arrive from Manchester United.
