Premier League-bound Fulham are close to securing a deal for Lazio star Thomas Strakosha in the upcoming 2022 summer transfer window.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, EFL Championship winners Fulham are nearing a summer agreement to sign Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Cottagers were by far the standout team in the English second division this season. Marco Silva’s side has been impressive and will now ply their trade in the Premier League. Having experienced relegation last time around, the Craven Cottage outfit will be aware that an infusion of quality in the summer will make them stronger.

Marek Rodak has largely been the first-choice goalkeeper at Fulham this season. However, the Slovakian is not the most assured presence between the sticks, and the Cottagers could do with an upgrade.

They appear to have found their man in Serie A star Strakosha who continues to impress for Lazio. The 27-year-old looks set to leave the Roman side this summer, and Fulham appear to be closing in on a deal.

The Cottagers look set to agree on a four-year deal with the Albanian shot-stopper. As things stand, negotiations are in the final phase with just the finer details missing. The quicker they can get the deal over the line, the more time Fulham will have to integrate their new number one into the squad.

Fulham had one of the leakiest defences in the Premier League in their last season in the top flight. This was all the more exacerbated given their paucity of scoring goals. They appear to have learned their lesson and will now be getting themselves a dependable last line of defence.

Not only is the 27-year-old a proven talent in the top flight in Italy, but also adept at making accurate long passes. This bodes well for Silva’s game plan which relies on a free-flowing attack. Signing Strakosha along might not be enough for the London-based side to guarantee their survival but is nevertheless a good start.

While there are certainly better goalkeepers out in the market, Strakosha is available for a free once his contract expires next month. Landing him will not just address a key area of the Fulham squad but also keep funds aside to strengthen other positions. It appears to be only a matter of time before his move to Craven Cottage is made official.
