Newcastle United are planning to make an offer for AS Roma midfielder Jordan Veretout, who remains keen on moving to England.
According to Area Napoli, Jordan Veretout is a target for Premier League side Newcastle United in the summer. Eddie Howe is keen to add experience in his midfield ahead of next season and the Magpies are ready to launch an offer for the 29-year-old, but face competition from Napoli.
Newcastle United already have plans in place ahead of the summer window. Their exploits in January helped retain their status as a Premier League club. And now the Saudi Arabia-backed ownership will want to see progress on the pitch, especially against the established elite in the country.
Howe secretly knows their target for next season would be challenging for the top-six. Qualification into one of the three European competitions would be considered an accomplishment. The Magpies need to be smart once more in the transfer window to improve their chances.
The backing from their ownership will allow Howe and his transfer experts to choose from a wide range of players for specific positions. The manager is keen to address the central midfield area, which needs reinforcements rather than expensive outlays on reputed players.
The signing of Bruno Guimaraes in January has elevated their quality in the central areas, and Howe wants to add an experienced player this summer. With some impressive performances this season, Joelinton will retain his place for next season, although the future of Sean Longstaff could be in doubt.
There is an offer from the club for their academy graduate. Longstaff has not signed it yet, and with time running out before his contract expires, the Magpies are looking at options to replace him. Roma’s Jordan Veretout has popped up on their radar, with the Premier League side planning a definitive offer in the summer.
Roma are seeking around €18-20 million for the experienced French midfielder. Veretout has played an important role for the Giallorossi, making 47 appearances across all competitions. The Italian side are willing to let him leave if a reasonable offer arrives, as they could look to exercise their buy option on the January arrival of Sergio Oliveira.
The Magpies are also keen on Youri Tielemans, who does play a slightly different role than Veretout in the midfield. The idea for the Magpies would be to spend smart than splash the cash, and hence Howe is keen to add the Frenchman.
They face competition from Napoli, who remain keen on the Roma midfielder. However, Veretout could favour a move abroad, preferably to the Premier League, as he is ready for a new challenge in his career.
Newcastle, are a progressive team that could get much better next season, and the midfielder could be a timely addition for a team in transition. Veretout could also enjoy a much more productive time at St James Park and may be inclined to push a move through if the interest is genuine.
