Liverpool are reportedly set to lose their youth prospect Elijah Dixon-Bonner at the end of the season.
According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool are on the verge of losing Elijah Dixon-Bonner. The two parties have recently had a talk and have decided to part ways with each other at the end of the season. Dixon-Bonner is currently a part of the Liverpool reserve team, but he will be free to find a new team in the summer.
The youngster’s current contract at Anfield was set to expire at the end of the season. But Liverpool had an option to extend his contract for another season. However, it appears the midfielder has asked the club not to exercise that option as he wants to ply his trade elsewhere next season.
A central midfielder by trade, Dixon-Bonner joined Liverpool in 2015 from the Arsenal academy. He was initially drafted into the Liverpool youth setup when Brendan Rodgers was still in charge of the club. But the youngster eventually ranked his way up to the reserve side in the summer of 2019.
Unfortunately. the midfielder’s growth has been stifled since, with the player struggling to earn recognition in the Liverpool first team. In the last three years, Dixon-Bonner has already featured in 55 matches for the Liverpool Under-23 setup, but he has been called into the senior action just thrice.
Due to the lack of game-time, the Englishman is prepared to leave Liverpool at the end of the season. He is keen on embarking on a new adventure, where he can gain more game-time and make a name for himself at the highest level of football. He should find no shortage of alternatives either, as he is regarded highly due to his skill and technique.
A move to the Championship appears to be the likely option for Dixon-Bonner, as the second division has proven to be the breeding ground for multiple young players in the past. Even one of Liverpool’s prospects Neco Williams has enjoyed immense success at Fulham and is soon set to make his loan move permanent.
Elijah Dixon-Bonner will be aiming for similar success, although due to his lack of experience in professional football, the Liverpool midfielder might have to be content with a move to a lower tier Championship outfit.
