Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly held discussions with Sir Alex Ferguson over his Manchester United future.

According to Daily Mirror, Cristiano Ronaldo is yet to decide on his Manchester United future and has held discussions with legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson about it. The Portuguese international enters the final year of his contract with the Red Devils next month as speculations continue to make the rounds surrounding his future.

Sir Alex Ferguson and Cristiano Ronaldo live close to each other in Manchester and have frequented each other’s place throughout the season. The former Manchester United manager reportedly played a key role in the 37-year-old’s return to Old Trafford last summer.

Things have not quite gone to plan for Ronaldo and Manchester United, as the club are currently sixth in the table and are mathematically out of the race for the top four. The Portuguese has been in fine goal-scoring form, however, scoring 24 goals across competitions and is the club’s highest goal-scorer this season.

Manchester United’s current situation has brought Ronaldo’s future under the scanner as well. Manchester United will be without UEFA Champions League football next season, which has further put the Portuguese’s future at the club in doubt.

The report claims that Sir Alex Ferguson ‘would like’ to have Ronaldo stay at Old Trafford for one more season at least. Manchester United also have the option to extend the former Real Madrid talisman’s stay by another year, but a lot depends on incoming manager Erik ten Hag. Ralf Rangnick has urged Manchester United to keep hold of Ronaldo, however.

The Dutch tactician, along with overseeing signings this summer, will have a big decision to make regarding Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford. While the Portuguese forward has been Manchester United’s top scorer this season, the jury is still out on whether he would fit into ten Hag’s system and his off-the-ball contribution.

The Portuguese international has not opened up on his future yet, but an update should be expected as the Red Devils approach the end of the season. His celebration following Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Brentford at Old Trafford hinted that he might stay on for another season with the club.
