Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for James Maddison, who could be one of the players to leave Leicester City this summer.

According to Fichajes, James Maddison is a target for Manchester United in the summer, as Erik ten Hag eyes a statement signing. Leicester City may have to sell at least one of their top players in the summer transfer window to balance their books as they will not feature in Europe next season.

Leicester City’s difficult season took a turn for the worse after their defeat to AS Roma in the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League this week. That loss ensured the Foxes will play no part in Europe next season, and their underwhelming Premier League campaign has done no favours to their cause.

Looking at the current state of their squad and depending on whether Brendan Rodgers remains at the club, Leicester will need to bring in players to improve the team. However, the lack of European football affects their revenue stream, so they may need to sell one of their top players to fund new transfers.

Wesley Fofana, Youri Tielemans and James Maddison could be these players who might depart from the King Power Stadium. Maddison, in particular, could fetch a significant amount of money. There is heavy interest in the attacker, with plenty of big teams vying for his signature.

While there is considerable interest from Arsenal and Tottenham over in north London, Manchester United have entered the chase recently. The Red Devils are looking for significant reinforcements after an underwhelming season, as Erik ten Hag looks to stamp his authority at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman will take over in the summer and has a big task to revamp the squad. The incoming Manchester United boss could focus on bringing in attacking talents with a No.10 and a striker deemed necessary. Manchester United’s interest in Leicester City’s Maddison is understandable, and it could turn into a bid.

Maddison will be a costly acquisition for Manchester United, considering Leicester were demanding more than £60 million in the previous summer from the likes of Arsenal. With two years left on his deal, it may be time for the Foxes to cash in, and they may end up commanding a similar price from last summer.

Manchester United can pay top prices for any player, but if the interest from rivals gets piqued, then Maddison may have a difficult choice to make. One of Arsenal or Tottenham could well offer Champions League football, while the Red Devils’ performance against Brighton could put them in contention to play in the Europa League next season, which is a competition the attacker may not want to play in again.
