Southampton are reportedly not interested in selling James Ward-Prowse amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.
According to Daily Mail, Southampton are prepared to push back interest from Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United for 27-year-old English midfielder James Ward-Prowse. The playmaker, who is also the club captain, will have four years remaining on his contract with the Saints, meaning they are under no pressure to sell him.
Ward-Prowse has been in excellent form for Southampton this season, scoring ten and assisting seven goals across competitions. The English playmaker’s form makes him one of the prime candidates to get into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. But for that, he will have to continue performing in a similar vein and start the next season on a high.
Southampton are reportedly confident that they can keep the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United away from the 27-year-old. Both the interested clubs are preparing for an all-important summer transfer window.
While Tottenham are willing to provide manager Antonio Conte with all possible means to keep him at the club and help the side fight for trophies next season, Newcastle are looking at a summer overhaul under their new owners.
Ward-Prowse is a proven commodity in the Premier League and would improve any team that he joins. Overall, the 27-year-old has made 301 appearances in the English top-flight, scoring 39 and assisting 35 goals. Considering his current form, it comes as no surprise that he is attracting interest from the bigger clubs.
The 27-year-old English international could himself be interested in playing for one of the Big Six clubs and challenging for trophies every season. However, as the report by Daily Mail states, Ward-Prowse will not force a move away from the club, especially as he is the captain of the side.

It remains to be seen whether the Saints manage to hold on to their prized asset beyond the upcoming transfer window or if one of the bigger Premier League clubs manages to lure him to their squad. Tottenham and Newcastle United will surely be interested in the developments.
