Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin prefers Arsenal over Newcastle United

Arsenal offer €47 million to sign Chelsea target Riccardo Calafiori, told to pay more.

Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin will reportedly prefer a move to Arsenal over Newcastle United.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal and Newcastle United are both showing interest in Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin and could make summer moves for him. The report adds that the 25-year-old will reportedly choose the London club over Newcastle.

Both Arsenal and Newcastle United are in the market for a No. 9 and believe Calvert-Lewin could be the answer to their problems. With Everton enduring a tough season, they need a summer overhaul and could benefit from the England international’s sale.

The aforementioned report states that Calvert-Lewin will leave the Merseyside club even if they manage to avoid relegation, which has alerted both Arsenal and Newcastle. However, the striker seems to have his mind made up as he has reportedly informed his friends that he would prefer a move to north London.

Calvert-Lewin will possibly get Champions League football with Arsenal next season and the chance to lead an attack filled with young, creative players. Newcastle are still a work in progress, on the other hand. With Everton willing to cash in, Arsenal seem to be leading the race for the England international.

Mikel Arteta’s side will possibly be without a first-team striker after this season with both Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette’s contracts expiring this summer. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s departure in January has also left a big hole in the squad. A No. 9 is thus high on their priority and Calvert-Lewin seems like a decent option with ample Premier League experience.

Newcastle United, on the other hand, are aiming to return to the upper echelons of Premier League football under new owners and believe Calvert-Lewin has the talent and ability to lead their resurgence. But they are reportedly trailing the race for his signature.

After having his best Premier League season last term, scoring 16 goals in 33 matches, the 25-year-old has had an indifferent campaign. He has scored just three goals in 13 appearances, with a fractured toe keeping him out for the majority of the season. Calvert-Lewin will have three years remaining on his contract after the ongoing season but a departure seems imminent.

And as things stand, it seems like the England international would choose Arsenal over Newcastle United.
