Real Madrid have rejected the opportunity to sign Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba on a free transfer this summer.
According to a report from Defensa Central, Paul Pogba is set to leave Manchester United in the summer. His current deal at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season, with the Premier League giants unlikely to make any efforts to renew his contract. It has compelled his agent Mino Raiola to find him a new club ahead of the new season.
Raiola has contacted multiple clubs, offering them the opportunity to sign Pogba. Real Madrid were among the teams who were given the chance to sign the Frenchman on a free transfer, but the report suggests the Spanish giants have turned down the opportunity.
Despite Pogba being on the radar of Los Blancos for quite some time now, it appears the Spanish league leaders have no intention to sign the former Juventus star in the new season. Pogba was a top target for previous coach Zinedine Zidane, but current manager Carlo Ancelotti does not rate the player highly.
It appears the Italian mastermind is well aware of Pogba’s struggles in the Premier League, with the midfielder failing to live up to his hefty price tag since rejoining Manchester United in 2016.
With Luka Modric nearing the end of his career, Real Madrid are in desperate need of a new midfielder this summer. But with Pogba suffering from injuries and a lack of consistency, the Spanish giants are exploring other options in the market.
Ancelotti has targeted numerous players in the market so far, including Newcastle United’s January signing Bruno Guimaraes. But Los Blancos would ideally sign Pogba’s young French teammate Aurelien Tchouameni, who is currently one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe.
As for Pogba himself, he has been rejected by Manchester City as well, and according to the report, only Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain have shown the intention to snap up the Frenchman in the upcoming summer transfer window.
PSG, in particular, could emerge as the likely destination for the Manchester United midfielder, who will be keen on sealing a return to his homeland, and potentially link up with the likes of Marco Verratti, Lionel Messi and Neymar next season.
