Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Aberdeen sensation Calvin Ramsay ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to The Sun, Premier League giants Liverpool are interested in securing the services of Aberdeen’s young star Calvin Ramsay in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The 18-year-old came through the ranks at the Scottish giants, making his first-team debut in 2020. He has since made 37 appearances for the senior side, scoring once and making nine assists.
A right-back, he is the latest name in a series of top-level Scottish full-backs who are making their name in the game today. Ramsay is not just a solid presence in defence but has also shown his aptitude in getting forward and contributing actively to attacking moves.
This augurs well for Liverpool, who predominantly use their full-backs as attacking weapons capable of wreaking havoc on the wings. In Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson, the Reds possess possibly the most potent full-back duo in world football at the moment.
While the quality of their starters is not in question, the Reds could do with bringing in strength in depth. The arrival of Kostas Tsimikas has given Robertson a capable understudy, but the same cannot be said of Alexander-Arnold.
The 23-year-old is one of the finest young players in world football and a starter whenever available. While Neco Williams has done a job when needed, he is now out on loan, and his future at the club is in question.
The Reds could do with bringing in a young right-back who has experience while also having enough potential to grow. Ramsay suits the criteria and could improve his game in the years to come under Jurgen Klopp.
A potential move to Anfield could help further the 18-year-old’s talents but could see him take a hit as far as senior football minutes are concerned. Whether he is willing to take on that challenge and go toe to toe against the likes of Alexander-Arnold remains to be seen.
At just 23, Alexander-Arnold is young enough to cement his spot in the Reds’ lineup for years to come. Bringing in an understudy who has to be content sitting on the bench for large stretches of the season is not an easy task.
Klopp has already started laying the foundation for a rebuild at Liverpool, with the club having agreed on a deal to bring in Championship star Fabio Carvalho in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Reds have also agreed to bring in Celtic’s young sensation Ben Doak. Whether Ramsay will follow him to Merseyside remains to be seen.
