Liverpool in talks with Karim Adeyemi

Liverpool are in talks with German international Karim Adeyemi as negotiations between Borussia Dortmund and RB Salzburg hit an obstacle.

According to Sky Sport Austria, Liverpool are one of the clubs currently in talks with RB Salzburg sensation Karim Adeyemi ahead of the 2022 summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old is one of the best young players in Europe and has taken his game to new levels in recent months. The German international came through the ranks at Bayern Munich and SPVgg Unterhaching before moving to Salzburg in 2018.

He made his senior debut for the Austrian giants in the 2019/20 season and has since continued to develop his game. Adeyemi is enjoying a spectacular 2021/22 campaign, netting 20 goals and five assists in just 38 appearances at the club level.

This has caught the attention of several clubs, including Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund. BVB are amongst the finest clubs across Europe in developing young talent and could help Adeyemi take the next step in his development. Negotiations between Dortmund and Salzburg have gone well with both sides agreeing to a transfer fee of €35 million.

This breakthrough comes following several rounds of talks between both clubs. Despite the agreement of sorts, a deal is far from complete. The Germans are keen to tie down the 20-year-old to a five-year deal but are facing complications when it comes to reaching an agreement with the player himself.

This has allowed the likes of Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig to make their case. Jurgen Klopp’s side have, in recent windows, focused on adding youth to their ranks and signing Adeyemi will be a solid move.

Liverpool’s vaunted front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah are not getting any younger and will need to be replaced sooner rather than later. While bringing in Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz has addressed the situation to an extent, more is needed.

Adeyemi has pace to burn and is capable of playing anywhere along the frontline. This will make him a valuable addition to the Reds’ attack that thrives on interchangeability and chaos. Just 20, Klopp can also help the youngster take on the mantle from Salah and develop him into the Egyptian’s long-term replacement at Anfield.

The German international will also join a list of talented young players that include Ibrahima Konate, Neco Williams, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and impending arrival, Fabio Carvalho on Merseyside. There is every reason to believe that Klopp’s next great team is taking shape, and Adeyemi could have a starring role to play in it.

There is still much work to be done if Liverpool are to secure the player next summer. As things stand Dortmund, Salzburg and Adeyemi are all keen on seeing his move to Signal Iduna Park come to fruition. Whether an agreement can be struck in the coming weeks or not remains to be seen. Either way, it would appear that the young attacker is not short of options and will have a plethora of clubs clamouring for his signature.
