Tottenham Hotspur are ready to rival Arsenal for the signing of Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.

According to The Sun, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been long-term admirers of Leicester City playmaker James Maddison and believe the upcoming summer transfer window would be the perfect time to sign him.

Maddison has been a hit at Leicester since arriving from Norwich City ahead of the 2018/19 season. The England international had scored 14 and assisted eight goals for the Canaries in the preceding season, prompting Leicester to sign him in a £22.5 million deal.

The 25-year-old has made 160 appearances for the Foxes since arriving, scoring 40 and assisting 54 goals. Leicester are thinking of cashing in on the playmaker to invest in other areas. As per the aforementioned report, they rate Maddison at £60 million.

He has been on the radar of a few top-six clubs for some time now, with Arsenal and Tottenham taking a step ahead in his pursuit if reports from English media are to be believed.

The Gunners have been monitoring the 25-year-old for quite some time. And with Maddison producing his best season in a Leicester shirt in terms of goals scored across competitions (13), they believe he could improve their squad ahead of the next season.

Mikel Arteta already has Martin Odegaard and Emile Smith Rowe as playmaking options, but a Champions League qualification could spur the Gunners to add another attacking midfielder to provide depth.

Tottenham, on the other hand, are preparing for a massive summer overhaul. Antonio Conte is believed to be Maddison’s admirer and wants an upgrade on his attacking options. But a playmaker is not his priority with Spurs looking for a central defender.

But Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso, both of whom are out on loan, are unlikely to have a future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. While Ndombele is still looking for potential suitors, Villarreal are eager to sign Lo Celso. So, adding a creative midfielder to complement current midfielders like Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could be a good move, making Maddison a viable target.

The 25-year-old has already matched his best Premier League goals tally, having scored eight in 27 games to equal his last season’s numbers. But with Youri Tielemans also headed for the exit doors, Leicester might think twice before selling Maddison in the summer transfer window.
