Manchester United scouts have been left impressed by Porto star Fabio Vieira following his performance against Santa Clara.
According to Record via Sportwitness, Manchester United have been keeping tabs on FC Porto ace Fabio Vieira and the club scouts have been left impressed by his performance against Santa Clara.
The Red Devils’ scouts were in attendance at the Estadio do Dragao earlier this week as Porto defeated their opponents by a 3-0 scoreline. Vieira was the hero of the night as he scored two of his side’s three goals and showed glimpses of his excellent ability on the ball.
Vieira came through the ranks at Porto before going on to make his debut for the senior side in 2020. He has since amassed 70 appearances, scoring ten goals and making 15 assists. He has taken his form up several notches this season and it has now caught the attention of those at Old Trafford.
Primarily an attacking midfielder, the 21-year-old can serve several roles across the field. This augurs well for Manchester United who appear set to appoint Erik ten Hag as their new permanent manager. The Dutchman employs a fluid style of football and Vieira’s versatility should aid him in adapting to the 52-year-old’s demands.
Not only is the Portuguese youth international capable of playing through balls and slicing defences apart, but he also has a keen eye while taking setpieces. He is nowhere near the finished article and will only continue to develop in the years to come.
Manchester United are overly dependent on Bruno Fernandes to craft opportunities from midfield and could do with a couple of additions capable of doing so. Vieira still has much to develop and it is in the Red Devils’ best interests to land him before other teams enter the fray.
The 21-year-old youngster is represented by superagent Jorge Mendes who also manages the affairs of Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. Another of his clients, Ruben Neves is also on the Red Devils’ radar heading into the summer transfer window. It is fair to say that Mendes could be a regular visitor at Old Trafford should the club continue their pursuit of the Portuguese duo.
As things stand, it remains unclear if Porto are willing to listen to offers for Vieira. Having lost arguably their best player in Luis Diaz to Liverpool last January, it is debatable if they will let another gem slip through their fingers. Whether Manchester United can make them an offer they cannot refuse remains to be seen.
