Arsenal are reportedly ready to drop their interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin amid fears over his sketchy injury record.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal are poised to abandon their pursuit of Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The Premier League giants are having doubts over the 25-year-old English international’s poor injury record, effectively prompting them to look elsewhere for alternatives.

Calvert-Lewin is currently one of the most in-demand English strikers due to his goalscoring prowess, coupled with the physical and aerial presence he brings to the table. He has a record of scoring 56 goals in 184 competitive matches for Everton, but the majority of them have come in the last two or three years.

Calvert-Lewin notably starred in the 2020/21 campaign, racking up 16 goals in the Premier League. However, his progress has since been marred by injuries, with the forward missing a major chunk of the ongoing campaign. The 25-year-old English international has played in only ten matches, scoring a total of three goals in the league.

The Englishman’s struggles with injuries appear to have deterred Arsenal, who are in the market for a new number nine after losing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January. The Gunners may also lose Alexandre Lacazette in the summer amid interest from Barcelona and the Frenchman’s former club Lyon.

Arsenal have already set their sights on a host of options across Europe, most recently targeting up and coming Italian starlet Gianluca Scamacca. They were interested in a January swoop for Dusan Vlahovic in January as well, but the Serbian sensation opted to join Juventus.

Everton, meanwhile, are believed to be keen on offloading Calvert-Lewin, knowing the Englishman can generate much-needed transfer revenue required to rebuild the team next season. While the 25-year-old forward may not move to Arsenal, he remains a top target for Newcastle United, who are prepared to flex their financial muscle in the coming summer.

A move to a bigger club could be vital for Calvert-Lewin in his hopes to secure a place in the England squad, especially given Tammy Abraham’s ongoing resurgence. Curiously, the former Chelsea starlet has been linked with a return to the Premier League next season, and it will be interesting to see if Arsenal join the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea in the race to sign the AS Roma frontman.
