Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of completing the capture of Celtic whizkid Trent Kone-Doherty, who is eligible to move to Anfield in the summer.
According to a report from 90 min, Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Trent Kone-Doherty. The 15-year-old sensation currently plies his trade with Derry City, but he has agreed to join the Merseyside giants in the coming season.
Although a Republic of Ireland youth international, Kone-Doherty is eligible to move to Anfield in the summer as he was born in the Northern Irish city of Derry. The youngster is widely regarded as one of the most sought-after youngsters playing in Northern Ireland, with Derry City powerless in preventing his move to Liverpool.
A forward by trade, Kone-Doherty has consistently represented the Irish youth teams and is revered as one of the most exciting talents in the country. Despite sharing African heritage, he has shown full commitment toward Ireland and is gunning to become a Premier League player in the near future upon joining Liverpool.
His move to Liverpool, in that regard, could be a step in the right direction. The Reds have an excellent training facility for the youth and nurtured a host of talented young players in the recent past.
The likes of Curtis Jones, Neco Williams and Trent Alexander-Arnold have all enjoyed their first-team breakthroughs at Anfield in recent years. At the age of just 15, Kone-Doherty has a long way to go before he can tread on the same path. But the Irish sensation has already impressed at Derry City despite playing with seniors, and it is only a matter of time before he finds his breakthrough in the Liverpool youth setup.
Trent Kone-Doherty is one of two new youngsters Liverpool are targeting this summer, with the other being Ben Doak. The exciting talent from Celtic FC is widely expected to leave the club in the summer, with Anfield emerging as the likely destination.
The addition of Kone-Doherty and Doak could significantly improve the ranks of the Liverpool youth setup. However, it remains to be seen whether either of these two players can live up to the expectations after setting strong standards at their respective clubs.
