Arsenal, Tottenham monitoring Omar Marmoush

Arsenal offer €47 million to sign Chelsea target Riccardo Calafiori, told to pay more.

Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly on alert as VfL Wolfsburg face a battle to keep hold of 23-year-old Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush.

According to a report from Sport Bild, Tottenham and Arsenal are closely monitoring the situation of Omar Marmoush. The 23-year-old VfL Wolfsburg forward has impressed during his loan spell at VfB Stuttgart this season, and with his contract expiring in 2023, he could be on the verge of a move to the Premier League next season.

The report indicates Marmoush has dreamt of a move to the Premier League ever since he was a boy. He has also recently switched to ICM Stellar Sports agency that represents a number of Premier League players, including Ben Davies and Kieran Tierney. Arsenal and Tottenham are both aware of his desires and could make a move in the summer transfer window.

A native of Cairo, Marmoush joined Wolfsburg back in 2017 as a youth player. Since then, he has enjoyed a swift rise to prominence, although he had to move to VfB Stuttgart on loan last summer in order to make his breakthrough in the Bundesliga.

Indeed, the 23-year-old has become one of the bright spots in an otherwise dire campaign for Stuttgart this term. In 15 matches, the forward has scored three goals while assisting four times. His productivity in the final third has been crucial for Stuttgart in the absence of two key players in Sasa Kalajdzic and Silas Katompa Mvumpa.

Arsenal’s interest in Marmoush stems from the club’s apparent need for a new striker. The Gunners lost Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona in the summer, while Alexandre Lacazette could move on at the end of the season amid interest from Barcelona and his former club Lyon.

Tottenham Hotspur are on the hunt for a new striker as well, considering the uncertain future of Harry Kane. The English international has become a top summer target for Manchester United, and his potential exit could create a massive void in the club’s goalscoring department.

Marmoush, though, is far from a clinical goalscorer. Despite being a number nine, the Egyptian tends to thrive in tight spaces and can usually offer ball-carrying abilities in the final third. While he might be an excellent supporting striker in the Premier League, the Wolfsburg starlet might not be an ideal replacement for either Kane or Aubameyang.

Nevertheless, at the age of just 23, Marmoush can only improve his game in the future and given his contract situation, he could prove to be a shrewd target for these two Premier League clubs this summer.
