Transfer News: Liverpool plotting summer move for Ismaila Sarr

Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Watford attacker Ismaila Sarr ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to Fichajes, Premier League giants Liverpool are keeping tabs on Watford winger Ismaila Sarr as they prepare for the upcoming 2022 summer transfer window.

The Reds have one of the best forward lines in the world in Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah. This fearsome attack was already strengthened by the additions of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz in recent windows. Adding Sarr to that roster could potentially hand Jurgen Klopp his frontline for the future while also adding depth to the current squad.

Both Salah and Mane are set to enter the final year of their respective Liverpool contracts, while Firmino is no longer an automatic starter. While replacing them will not be easy, Klopp will be wise to rebuild a side whose major players are not getting any younger.

In Sarr, they have a player who has shown enough promise to suggest that he could develop into a marauding force on the wing. Just 24, the Senegalese international has been one of Watford’s standout performers in a season that looks destined to end in relegation from the Premier League. He appears to have taken the Hornets as far as possible and could be on the market at the end of the season.

The winger’s contract at Vicarage Road runs until 2024, and he has no intention of penning an extension. While having two years left on his current deal does offer Watford some leeway in negotiations, it might not be enough for the Premier League outfit to hold onto arguably their best asset.

Primarily a right-winger, Sarr is capable of playing anywhere along the frontline. His ability to impress in the same position as Salah is interesting given the uncertainty surrounding the Egyptian’s future at Anfield. Should the Senegalese attacker arrive on Merseyside, it remains to be seen if he is the one to take Salah’s mantle at the club.

Sarr has made 86 appearances for Watford, scoring 24 goals and assisting 17 more. Mane was 24 when he moved to Liverpool from Southampton in 2016. A talented player, the switch to Anfield helped elevate him to greater heights and made him one of the first major pieces in Klopp’s Liverpool overhaul.

Whether the Liverpool manager will once again strike it big with a Senegalese talent on the cusp of greatness remains to be seen. Should Sarr help herald Klopp’s next great Liverpool side, it will not come as a surprise.
