Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for La Liga rivals and title hopefuls Sevilla ahead of the summer window.
According to Fichajes, Sevilla are looking to bolster their centre-forward department in the summer transfer window and have identified Real Madrid star Luka Jovic as a potential target.
Jovic signed for Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 in a deal worth around €60 million from Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt. However, the move has been disappointing as the 24-year-old has struggled to make an impact at the Santiago Bernabeu. In 49 matches for the Merengues, the Serbian has scored just three goals and set up four more.
Jovic spent the second half of last season out on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt, but could not recapture his past form. He had been linked with an exit last summer, but manager Carlo Ancelotti decided to keep hold of him. However, having failed to make the most of whatever opportunities have come his way this term, the striker seems primed for an exit at the end of the season.
As things stand, there seems to be no shortage of suitors for Jovic. Arsenal have entered the race to sign the 24-year-old, while there is also interest from Borussia Dortmund. Now, Sevilla have also thrown their hat in the ring to secure the striker’s signing for next season.
Sevilla signed Anthony Martial on loan from Manchester United in January to strengthen their attack. However, they are unwilling to make his transfer permanent at the end of the season. Youssef En-Nesyri has had a disappointing season and is being linked with an exit, with West Ham United among the clubs interested in the Moroccan international.
Should he end up leaving, Julen Lopetegui’s side will need a new striker to fill the void that En-Nesyri would leave. They have identified Jovic as one of the options to replenish their frontline. Apart from Jovic, Sevilla, who are chasing Real Madrid for the La Liga title this season, are also looking at Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos, Almeria’s Umar Sadiq and Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez as alternatives.
