Real Madrid are ready to step up their pursuit of Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney after having scouted him extensively for over a month.
According to a report from 90 Min, Real Madrid are set to ramp up their efforts to sign Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney after carrying out scouting missions to monitor his performances for the past couple of months.
Tierney signed for Arsenal in the summer of 2019 from Scottish giants Celtic and has become one of the most pivotal players for the Gunners over the past couple of years. A mainstay on the left side of the defence, the Scotsman has racked up 84 appearances for the north London club, bagging four goals and setting up 12 more for his teammates.
Tierney, a firm fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium, had briefly lost his place in the lineup to Nuno Tavares earlier this term. But he has since reclaimed his spot and once again emerged as the undisputed first-choice starter at left-back. His progress has seemingly caught the eye of Real Madrid.
Los Blancos are understood to have sent scouts to watch another Arsenal player, Bukayo Saka. While the youngster has impressed, Real Madrid have been blown away by Tierney’s displays during the past couple of months as per the 90 Min report. They now believe that the 24-year-old Scottish international can be a valuable addition to the roster at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid could be forced into the market for a new left-back in the summer transfer window. Captain and club legend Marcelo is out of contract at the end of the season and looks set to depart, as no talks have taken place over renewing his terms. At the same time, the current La Liga leaders are also considering the prospect of selling Ferland Mendy.
Recent reports have claimed that the Merengues are unhappy with the contract demands being made by the Frenchman and his camp, and are prepared to cut ties with them in the summer, amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus. His departure would warrant the addition of a new left-sided full-back at the Santiago Bernabeu before the next season commences.
There have been talks about re-signing Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham Hotspur, while links to Fran Garcia persist as well. At the same time, Tierney has also emerged as a target, with chief scout Juni Calafat himself watching the Arsenal defender in action and being very impressed.
As a result, the Spanish capital club are now seriously considering firming up their interest in the former Celtic star, who can also play as a left-sided centre-back. Tierney signed a new contract with Arsenal last year, extending his stay at the Emirates until the summer of 2026. Signing him will not be easy for Real Madrid, with the Gunners expected to play hardball in negotiations given the importance of the player.
