Arsenal and Leicester City are reportedly interested in Italian international Domenico Berardi, who might look to depart Sassuolo this summer.
According to Calciomercato, Domenico Berardi could be a target for a few Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window, as Arsenal and Leicester City are pondering an approach. Sassuolo could be open to offers for the Italian international, who heads into the final two years of his current deal ahead of next season.
Domenico Berardi has been a consistent performer over the years for Sassuolo and has proven his importance in the Italian national side whenever called upon. To date, the highlight of his career was being involved in the Azzurri squad that won the UEFA Euro 2020. However, having spent almost his entire career at Sassuolo, the winger seems set to take up a new challenge, with clubs circling for his signature.
The winger might have indicated his desire to quit Sassuolo last summer when there was some level of interest from the Premier League. Leicester City were prepared to make an offer. However, the Italian side were reluctant to lose two of their star players in the same window, with the other one being Manuel Locatelli, who joined Juventus.
Berardi could get his wish after the current season ends, with clubs from England still retaining an interest in the 27-year-old Italian international. Leicester City are again in the hunt, although they have been joined by Arsenal in the chase for the winger, as both sides look to bolster their attacking options in the summer.
Leicester City manager Brandan Rodgers is looking at a few options to bolster his roster in the attacking third. The idea of signing Berardi could appeal to the Northern Irishman due to the winger’s immense experience at the highest level and proven quality.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have been searching for a wide player to suit their style. There have been links with some top names from across the continent, including Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry. AC Milan’s Rafael Leao is also a target for the Gunners, but the Mikel Arteta is keeping an eye out for alternatives if the north Londoners fail to lure primary targets.
Berardi could certainly become a high-quality squad option at Arsenal. The 27-year-old Italian international could be considered a potential replacement for the misfiring Nicolas Pepe if the Ivorian departs the club in the summer.
It remains to be seen if there is any seriousness in Arsenal or Leicester’s interest in the UEFA Euro 2020 winner. Berardi remains a seasoned professional who could certainly add to the quality at either of these clubs, although a move will depend on Sassuolo’s asking price.
