West Ham United could switch their attention towards Youssef En-Nesyri to solve their striker problem, with a summer approach looking likely.
According to Fichajes, West Ham United are interested in Youssef En-Nesyri and could move for the Moroccan in the summer window. The Hammers are desperate to land a highly-rated striker as cover and competition for Michail Antonio.
Question marks have been raised over West Ham’s quest for a top-four place after their recent defeat at the hands of Liverpool. They have slipped down the table and have played three more games than the current fourth-placed team Arsenal.
While there are a fair few games left to be played in the Premier League, the Hammers have the Europa League to contend with as well. One big problem has been their lack of depth, with the team faltering when some of their regulars are unavailable or ineffective — a pattern visible in their defeat to Liverpool.
They have been reliant on Jarrod Bowen’s goals for some time now and looked toothless without the English winger against Liverpool. The Hammers have found it hard to score goals through regular outlets, with star man Michail Antonio putting in some underwhelming performances of late.
David Moyes desperately wanted to sign a backup for Antonio and extensively searched through the market without any success. West Ham even saw a late bid for Reims forward Hugo Ekitike turned down after the French club increased their initial demands for the forward.
They were also linked with Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah late in the window and are now targetting more names for next season. Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri is the latest name on the Hammers’ radar, with a summer approach looking likely.
En-Nesyri had a sensational 2020/21 season with the Spanish outfit, scoring 24 goals across all competitions, including 18 in La Liga. His goalscoring prowess has attracted many suitors, including Arsenal and Newcastle, with the Gunners having also kept an eye on him during the January transfer window.
En-Nesyri has had a difficult campaign, only managing to score three times this season. Those three goals came early in the season, after which his game-time has been restricted because of a prolonged muscle problem. However, he has managed to take to the pitch in Sevilla’s last five games, failing to end his dry run. His worrying form may prompt Sevilla to consider offers in the summer window.
A summer move to West Ham United could grant the 24-year-old a new lease on life after a tough period in Seville. However, Los Nervionenses could have the final say with their fee demands. Before the January window, Sevilla wanted around €42 million, and it remains to be seen if there’s a reduction in the asking price. The Hammers would be interested if the price tag falls, and in that case, an approach is more than likely.
