Manchester United are reportedly ready to triple Christopher Nkunku’s wages to sign him in the summer.
According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are eager to bring 24-year-old RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Christopher Nkunku to Old Trafford in the summer. Interim Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick is a fan of the Frenchman, having signed him for the German outfit from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019. The Red Devils are even ready to offer triple of what Nkunku is earning at the Bundesliga outfit currently.
The versatile star is a PSG youth product and spent four seasons with their senior squad between 2015 and 2019. In 78 appearances for the French giants, he scored 11 goals and provided four assists before moving to the Bundesliga.
Current Manchester United interim coach, Ralf Rangnick brought Nkunku at Leipzig during his time as the club’s director and now wishes to sign him again. In two and a half seasons with the Bundesliga club, the 24-year-old has improved on his PSG output manifold and is a mainstay in the starting XI. He has made 121 appearances for them, scoring 39 and assisting 40 times.
Nkunku has been in fine form this season, having netted 14 times in the league. His form has put Manchester United on alert, with the Red Devils in desperate need of a forward signing in the summer.
The futures of two of Manchester United’s most senior forwards, Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani are still unclear. While the Uruguayan is all set to leave after the current season, Ronaldo could follow him if the Red Devils fail to qualify for the Champions League.
With Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Paul Pogba all likely to depart when their contract expire this year, a versatile attack-minded player like Nkunku would be a welcome addition at Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s scouts reportedly watched Nkunku play in a 1-0 Leipzig win at VfL Bochum in February, signalling a concrete interest from the Red Devils. The Frenchman currently earns a reported £30,000-a-week with the Bundesliga side and Manchester United would not mind offering him thrice his current wages. Chelsea are also reportedly interested in Nkunku.

The 24-year-old will have two years remaining on his contract with RB Leipzig after the current season but has a reported buyout clause of £62 million in his contract with them. Whether Manchester United are willing to match that in the summer remains to be seen.
