Djed Spence is emerging on the radars of clubs from England and Germany, with Bayern Munich joining the hunt for the English right-back.

According to Calciomercato, Bayern Munich have entered the chase for Djed Spence and are ready to rival widespread interest from Premier League clubs. Tottenham are supposedly leading the queue, but the German champions could prove to be a difficult opponent to beat for the emerging right-back.

Djed Spence has seen his name get mentioned by media outlets more than he would have anticipated in the last few months. Ever since the right-back put in a solid performance when Nottingham Forest knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup, the links with Premier League bigwigs have increased exponentially.

Parent club Middlesbrough were willing to consider a low-money offer for the right-back, but with interest growing at unprecedented levels, the Championship outfit will certainly increase the price tag. Spence’s style of play suits a system playing with a traditional full-back or wing-back, which makes him a unique player.

The 21-year-old English right-back is linked with big clubs such as Arsenal and Liverpool, with both sides keen on bringing in a new player in the position. They have established stars in their current setup, but Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp will certainly welcome a competitive new addition.

However, Tottenham are reportedly the front-runners for Spence in the current market, as Antonio Conte remains keen on solving his right wing-back issue. The 21-year-old English right-back certainly fits Spurs’ current system and will thrive playing a more attacking role for the north Londoners.

Current options, Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal, have failed to convince the Italian tactician, who has seen his team struggle without a contributing wing-back on the right side. Hence Tottenham have also been linked with other players, including Southampton’s Tino Livramento.

Spence has a contract with Middlesbrough until 2024, letting the Championship side dictate the potential transfer fee he might be sold for. It could substantially increase now that there is interest from overseas clubs, with Bayern Munich entering the race to sign the revered young right-back.

Bayern have been looking at young English players for quite some time, although they have barely had any success in their pursuits. However, their recent track record with developing young talents, particularly full-backs, remains unmatched and that could certainly be an attractive factor for any young star.

It remains to be seen if Spence is attracted by the prospect of leaving England for Germany and if he would turn down approaches from Premier League teams. For now, Tottenham remain in pole position, although things will be clearer as we approach the summer transfer window.
