La Liga giants Sevilla are reportedly not willing to sign on-loan Manchester United forward Anthony Martial on a permanent deal.
According to Football Transfers, Sevilla are uninterested in matching Manchester United’s valuation of Anthony Martial, which is expected to be in the region of €40 million to €50 million. The Frenchman joined the La Liga giants on a six-month loan in the January transfer window.
Martial came to prominence during his time with AS Monaco, which prompted Manchester United to buy him in the 2016 summer transfer window. Aged just 19 at the time, he started his career at Old Trafford with a goal against Liverpool but could not quite match the heights of his debut again.
The signings of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo, coupled with the rise of Marcus Rashford over the course of Martial’s career at Manchester United, further hampered his game time.
The 26-year-old had made just eight Premier League appearances for the Red Devils this season. Martial eventually grew frustrated and forced a loan move to Sevilla in the January transfer window.
Martial has so far made four appearances for Sevilla this season, scoring a goal in the UEFA Europa League. But that has not been enough to convince the La Liga giants to sign him on a permanent deal in the summer.
Sevilla are still involved in the La Liga title race with table-toppers Real Madrid, and are six points behind Los Blancos. They had reportedly signed the Frenchman to help their title push and do not need him past this season.
“Sevilla won’t buy Martial even if they win the Europa,” a source close to Sevilla told Football Transfers. “They are happy with him but they won’t sign him permanently. Any further deal is not in their plans at all – just these six months to help them challenge Real Madrid for the title.”
Over at Manchester United, the signing of Jadon Sancho and the emergence of Anthony Elanga could again adversely affect the Frenchman’s playing time. This leaves Martial with a big decision to make in the summer when his loan deal with the La Liga side ends. The 26-year-old has recently been linked with Inter Milan, and it would not be surprising to see him leave Manchester United permanently at the end of the season.
