Barcelona have reportedly made a huge contract offer of €190 million over five seasons for primary summer transfer target Erling Haaland.
According to Cuatro, Barcelona have acted on their interest in Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland by making a mammoth contract offer worth €190 million over five years for the Norwegian.
Haaland is one of the most in-demand players heading into the summer transfer window, thanks to his exploits with Borussia Dortmund over the past two years. A prolific goalscorer, the 21-year-old has plundered 80 goals from just 79 matches for the Black and Yellows. With his €75 million release clause kicking in this summer, clubs have been lining up to swoop him away from Germany.
The likes of Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid have all been linked with a move for the striker. Now, it seems like the Catalan heavyweights have taken the next step in their pursuit of Haaland by making a massive contract offer for the 21-year-old.
As per the report, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has tabled a proposal worth a mammoth €190 million broken over five years. It is claimed that Haaland would stand to earn €20 million in his first season, which would increase to €30 million and €40 million over the next couple of seasons, respectively.
The Norwegian international would draw wages of around €50-55 million in the fourth and fifth years of the contract, thus taking the deal’s total value to €190 million.
It is certainly a huge commitment from the Blaugrana, considering their current financial situation. They will also have to bear the €75 million transfer fee, along with commissions for Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola, and the striker’s father, Alf-Inge Haaland.
Laporta shares a very good relationship with Raiola, which gives Barcelona an added advantage. The super-agent is believed to be keen on taking Haaland to Camp Nou next term. Having lost Lionel Messi last year, the Catalan club are eager to bring in a new marquee player to lead their project, with the Norwegian identified as the top target.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s signing has addressed some of their goalscoring woes from the early parts of the season. But with Luuk de Jong unlikely to be signed permanently, they will need another natural striker in the ranks in the summer, and it seems like Barcelona will leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of Haaland.
Indeed, the report adds that manager Xavi Hernandez has flown to Germany to personally hold talks with the 21-year-old and convince him to join the club. So, it remains to be seen if Barcelona’s efforts to bring in Haaland prove fruitful or if the Dortmund ace ends up snubbing the Blaugrana in favour of a different club.
