Serie A giants Juventus are eyeing a move for Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy, who could be allowed to leave the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer.
According to a report from Jeunes Footeux, Juventus are poised to raid Real Madrid to secure the services of Ferland Mendy. The Serie A giants are actively looking to sign a left-back that can compete with Alex Sandro next season, with the Frenchman being identified as an ideal candidate.
Ferland Mendy has been a part of Real Madrid since 2019 when he joined the club for a fee of €48 million. The defender quickly became the first-choice left-back at the Santiago Bernabeu following Marcelo’s rapid fall from grace. In just two and a half years, the full-back has racked up 94 competitive appearances, notably helping the team win the 2019/20 La Liga title.
Real Madrid are reportedly set for a mass exodus in the left-back department next summer. Their veteran Brazilian Marcelo is expected to leave the club at the end of the season and has been courted by Inter Miami.
Carlo Ancelotti may also offload talented youth player Miguel Gutierrez, amid interest from a host of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. And it appears even Ferland Mendy could soon join the list of left-backs likely to leave Santiago Bernabeu in the summer.
Despite his status as a first-team regular, Real Madrid are considering selling Mendy next season, as Los Merengues have not taken kindly to the player’s urge to increase his salary, especially in the midst of a financial crisis. The Frenchman’s uncertain future at the club has now put Juventus on alert, with the Serie A giants considering a summer swoop.
As iterated earlier, the Bianconeri are in desperate need of reinforcements in the full-back department. Especially at left-back, there has been a dearth of competition for Alex Sandro, who has also endured a rapid fall from grace in recent years. The addition of Mendy, to that end, should go a long way in helping Massimiliano Allegri fix the issue and strengthen the core of his defence.
Real Madrid, for their part, have already started their search for a replacement for Mendy. They are among the clubs keeping an eye on Borussia Dortmund star Raphael Guerreiro, although they are set to face stiff competition from arch-rivals Barcelona.
