Aston Villa are among the clubs scouting Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara, who is set to become a free agent in the summer.

According to But! Football Club, Aston Villa have emerged as a potential destination for Boubacar Kamara. The Marseille starlet is one of the most in-demand midfielders in Europe as he is expected to be available on a free transfer at the end of the season. The player is unlikely to pen a contract extension at Marseille, putting multiple clubs on red alert.

The report states Aston Villa have been intensely scouting Kamara in recent weeks ahead of a potential move in the summer. The youngster could be seen as a solution to Steven Gerrard’s midfield problem, though the Villans are yet to make a definitive attempt to sign the player.

A homegrown youth player at Marseille, Kamara has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence since making his breakthrough in the 2018/19 campaign. The youngster has already notched up over 150 competitive appearances for the club, emerging as one of the most sought-after young players in Ligue 1.

A defensive midfielder by trade, the 22-year-old has made a solid impression with his work ethic and versatility in the middle of the park. Apart from offering defensive cover for the backline, he can operate as a centre-back as well and is very effective when it comes to playing the ball out from the back.

Such qualities have made Kamara an appealing option for multiple clubs across Europe, with Premier League outfits Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United reportedly vying for his signature next summer.

However, it appears Aston Villa have joined the list as well, with new coach Steven Gerrard desperate to reinforce his options in the number six role. The club do indeed have a weakness in the defensive midfield position, with Marvelous Nakamba struggling with injuries, whereas Douglas Luiz has been linked with a move away from Villa Park amid interest from Tottenham.

It has accentuated the need for a new midfielder, with Aston Villa also being linked with a move for Liverpool veteran James Milner.

However, Kamara could prove to be a much more logical option given his age profile and his potential to become one of the best holding midfielders in Europe. His status as a free agent makes the Frenchman an even more appealing option for Gerrard, although it could lead to more competition, as nearly all of Europe is after the talented Marseille starlet.
