Premier League giants Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a Bosman move for Inter Milan midfield powerhouse Marcelo Brozovic.
According to Fichajes, Liverpool have emerged as a potential destination for Marcelo Brozovic. Their head coach Jurgen Klopp was left impressed by the 29-year-old midfielder’s performance in the club’s recent Champions League affair against Inter Milan. With his contract expiring at the end of the season, the German tactician has been tempted to make a move to sign him for free in the summer.
The report suggests Brozovic has no intention to renew his contract at Inter Milan. Neither party has been able to reach an agreement, and it appears the player is set to leave the Serie A club for free at the end of the season. His situation has already put Barcelona on alert, with the Catalans reportedly prepared to table an €8 million a year contract offer to the Croat.
Formerly of Dinamo Zagreb, Brozovic has enjoyed immense success since joining Inter Milan in 2015. He has racked up 275 competitive appearances for the club, establishing himself as one of the best holding midfielders in Serie A. His presence in the middle of the park was one of the vital aspects behind Inter’s Scudetto-winning campaign last season.
Brozovic’s experience, coupled with his composure and ability to control the game, has left Klopp impressed as he looks to shore up his options in the middle of the park. It is apparent Liverpool are slowly trying to move on from the injury-prone figure of Naby Keita, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has not quite convinced the club’s hierarchy.
In an attempt to add more depth to the squad, Liverpool have been linked with a summer swoop for Kalvin Phillips. However, the Leeds United superstar could cost a fortune, while clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea are involved in the chase as well. As such, Klopp has set his sights on Marcelo Brozovic.
At the age of 29, the Croatian international is not particularly a young prospect. But he could be a logical addition given his experience and skillset in the middle of the park, making him an ideal alternative for Fabinho in the number six slot. What truly makes Brozovic such an appealing target for Liverpool, though, is his contract situation as the midfielder could be available for free in the summer.
Brozovic is not the only soon-to-be free agent Liverpool are targeting this summer, with Klopp also keen on a summer swoop for Fulham’s attacking sensation Fabio Carvalho, although the Reds may face stiff competition from AC Milan.
