Barcelona vs Getafe: Preview and Prediction

Barcelona prioritising January move for Thiago Alcantara.

Barcelona will look to make it seven wins in a row in La Liga when they host a struggling Getafe side that is yet to win a game.

Despite all the injury blows Hansi Flick’s Barcelona have been a force to reckon with in La Liga; they have won all their fixtures so far and will look to continue in a similar fashion against Getafe on Wednesday.

The Catalan giants might have had a disappointing start to their UEFA Champions League campaign. But they have hardly put a foot wrong in La Liga. The Blaugrana have scored 22 goals while only conceding five in their six outings.

The hosts are heading into this fixture on the back of an easy 5-1 win over Villarreal. While they did lose Marc-André ter Stegen because of an injury, which is a massive blow, they still managed to get the job done without much trouble.

On the other hand, Getafe find themselves in the relegation zone as they are yet to register their first win. The Azulones have played out four draws in their first six league outing and will be looking to create a major upset here.

Getafe played out a 1-1 draw in their last outing against Leganes. They did dominate the ball but could not make it count. While it was a decent performance, they will have to dig deep and bring out their best if they want to come out with anything from this fixture. The Hard Tackle takes a closer look at both teams and tries to predict the tactics they could put to use.

Team News & Tactics

Barcelona

Marc-Andre ter Stegen ruptured the patella tendon in his right knee in their last outing, and he is going to be out for a long while. He joins Dani Olmo, Marc Bernal, Fermin Lopez, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, Ronald Araujo, and Andreas Christensen on the sidelines. Ferran Torres is back in the mix after serving a suspension.

Hansi Flick rotated a few players in the last outing, and he is expected to go ahead with his preferred choices in this outing. Barcelona will line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation against Getafe, with Inaki Pena all set to make his first start of the season in goal.

Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde will be the full-backs for the home team, while Pau Cubarsi will feature in the heart of the defence alongside Inigo Martinez. Marc Casado and Pedri will form the double pivot in midfield. They will look to shield the backline and provide a base for their forward to push on from.

Lamine Yamal will continue to feature on the right flank. But we might see Ferran Torres take charge on the left while Raphinha shifts into a number ten role for this fixture. Star striker Robert Lewandowski will continue to lead the line for Barcelona against Getafe.

Probable Lineup (4-3-3): Pena; Kounde, Cubarsi, Martinez, Balde; Casado, Pedri; Yamal, Raphinha, Torres; Lewandowski

Getafe

The visitors will be without the services of defender Nabil Aberdin. Meanwhile, Alvaro Rodriguez, who is on loan from Real Madrid, is a doubt for this outing because of an ankle issue. Borja Mayoral, who has made substitute appearances in their last two outings, should start here.

Getafe will likely line up in a 5-4-1 formation against Barcelona, with David Soria in goal. Juan Iglesias and Diego Rico will feature out wide on the flanks in the back five, while Djene Dakonam, Juan Berrocal and Omar Alderete will be the three central defenders.

Carles Perez, Christantus Uche, Luis Milla and Alex Sola will feature in the centre of the park. Perez and Sola will look to feature on the flanks, while Uche and Milla will take charge in a more central role. Mayoral will be the lone forward for Getafe against Barcelona.

Probable Lineup (5-4-1): Soria; Iglesias, Djene, Berrocal, Alderete, Rico; Perez, Uche, Milla, Sola; Mayoral

Pedri was the talk of the town when he broke onto the scene at Barcelona before a few injuries derailed his progress. However, it seems he is slowly returning to his best under Hansi Flick. He looks in top shape and has made an exceptional start to the new season with two goals and an assist in his six league outings. The 21-year-old will look to ensure they secure yet another win when they host Getafe.

Prediction

Barcelona 3-0 Getafe

Given the kind of form Barcelona have displayed so far in the new season, it is very hard to bet against them. Despite missing quite a few of their key players, they are still playing an attacking and attractive brand of football. Meanwhile, Getafe have struggled in the new campaign, and they are unlikely to secure their first win against the European giants. The Hard Tackle predicts a 3-0 win for the home team.
