Portugal vs Croatia: Preview and Prediction

Portugal will take on Croatia at Estadio da Luz for their opening UEFA Nations League contest, looking to get back to winning ways.

Portugal are the top dogs in the UEFA Nations League A Group 1, and they will be desperate for a win when they welcome Croatia to Estadio da Luz on Thursday. The Seleccao will certainly fancy their chances, and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Portugal will be disappointed with the way their UEFA Euro 2024 campaign ended, and they will look to win a major trophy soon. The last two meetings between these two sides in the UEFA Nations League were packed with goals, and this one could be another entertaining affair.

Meanwhile, Croatia had a disappointing campaign at the European Championships as well, and they will need to be at their best to grind out a positive result here. They cannot afford to be complacent against a talented Portuguese unit.

Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo will undoubtedly be the centre of attention here, but both teams have a lot more to offer, and this could be a crunch clash between the two heavyweights. The Hard Tackle takes a closer look at the encounter ahead of the upcoming meeting between the two sides.

Prediction

Portugal 2-1 Croatia

Both teams are capable of winning the game here, and this is likely to be a close contest. Neither side will sit back and defend, and this could be an open game with a fair few chances. Both team are likely to get on the score sheet, but Portugal are the better team in theory and they should be able to come out on top against Croatia. A narrow win for the home team is on the cards.
