An Anthony Modeste goal helped Borussia Dortmund escape with a solitary point as the late strike handed Bayern Munich a sea of disappointment.
Anthony Modeste set up one and scored an injury-time winner as Borussia Dortmund reclaimed their status in Der Klassiker with an eventful showing. Jamal Musiala laid a brilliant ball to Leon Goretzka, whose powerful drive got past Alexander Meyer to provide the lead to the visitors just after the half-hour mark.
Leroy Sane then doubled the lead after a few minutes of the break with a left-footed punch, and everyone thought Bayern would leave the field with three points. But Anthony Modeste had some other plans.
The 34-year-old played a one-two with Youssoufa Moukoko, and the latter then snatched a lifeline with a low drive past Manuel Neuer. Modeste then salvaged a point as he latched onto Nico Schlotterbeck’s pinpoint cross to deny Bayern from taking the top spot. The Hard Tackle now runs the rule over both sets of players.

Borussia Dortmund
Alexander Meyer: 5/10
Despite Dortmund’s energetic show, Meyer had a horrific evening between the sticks. He could not react well at the time of both goals and should have saved at least the second goal. The 31-year-old took a couple of strides on his left and was not aware of Leon Goretzka’s intention to trap him with a shot from a distance. At the time of the second goal, he got a hand to Leroy Sane’s powerful shot, but it bounced off him and got into the target.
Niklas Sule: 5/10
Sule started in an unconventional right-back role and did a decent job as he made some gruesome tackles to win his duels with Bayern Munich attackers. But after he slotted into his original role, Bayern found it too easy to topple him as the German did not have the intention to go for the final tackle.
Mats Hummels: 6/10
Hummels shored up the defence well and did not let the opposition attack to fall back on them. He had to be called off at the break.
Nico Schlotterbeck: 7.5/10
Schlotterbeck gets extra marks for keeping the ball in the play at the penultimate minute, and he became the provider of the ball, as Anthony Modeste restored parity in the 95th minute. Schlotterbeck had a number of good defensive blocks and also kept the attacking balance intact as he was often seen joining the attackers towards building a movement.
Nico Schlotterbeck’s game by numbers vs. Bayern Munich:
87% pass accuracy
5 clearances
5 long balls completed
4 ground duels won
1 cross completed
1 key pass
1 big chance created
1 assistNever gave up. 🔥 pic.twitter.com/lsPW1PWbFj

Raphael Guerreiro: 6.5/10
Guerreiro tried to restrict Bayern’s movement from his side and was quite successful with his dominant defensive strides. He tested Manuel Neuer with a fierce piledriver, forcing a good save from the Bayern captain.
Salih Ozcan: 5.5/10
Tackles were flying in the middle of the pitch, and the Turk was responsible for a few of those. He made some important interceptions but did not influence the game he would have liked.
Jude Bellingham: 6/10
The midfield general tried to engineer his side’s energy as he engaged in a fierce battle, but Bayern kept him under strict check. A yellow card made him pretty cautious in dealing with the difficulties, and it also hampered his natural game.
Emre Can: 6.5/10
Can was probably the most influential midfielder for the home side. He had some aggressive moments with the match official, but he did not let that affect his game. He broke up Bayern’s advances a few times and also worked tirelessly to keep Dortmund in the game.
Donyell Malen: 5.5/10
Malen has to improve his finishing skills as the Dutch winger left his scoring boots at home. He did have a gilt-edged chance to make his opponents pay but could not beat the keeper. He needs to sharpen his senses otherwise and looks short of confidence.
Julian Brandt: 5/10
Brandt definitely worked on his work rate, but he had a very dull game as the final outcome was never there. He looked lively in patches but was easily caught by the Bayern players.
Youssoufa Moukoko: 8/10

— Squawka (@Squawka) October 8, 2022
Moukoko had some good duels with the Bayern defenders as he tried to press hard to win back possession. He was heavily involved in the final goal as he played a brilliant interchange of passes with Modeste and became the youngest scorer ever in Der Klassiker.
SUBSTITUTES
Marius Wolf: 5.5/10
Wolf took some really good positions and also forced a really good save from Neuer.
Karim Adeyemi: 7/10
His sheer pace and fluid footwork put the Bayern defenders in deep trouble. He even laid a brilliant ball to Modeste who failed to convert it.
Anthony Modeste: 7.5/10

Modeste was involved in both goals and finally opened his account with a brilliant header to send a stern warning to the other teams.
Thorgan Hazard: N/A
Did not play enough to warrant a rating.
Bayern Munich
Manuel Neuer: 6/10
Neuer was in the thick of things and made a couple of smart saves to deny his side more troubles.

Benjamin Pavard: 5/10
Pavard had a tough time dealing with the threat of Dortmund from his side. He also did not do enough to help in the attack.
Dayot Upamecano: 7/10
Upamecano misplaced a pass a couple of times. But aside from that, he had a clean game and made some really good recoveries and covered his area well.
Matthijs de Ligt: 6/10
Matthijs de Ligt worked well alongside Upamecano, but Dortmund got some real footing as he was subbed off just after the hour mark.
Alphonso Davies: 5/10
Davies started the match well but had to be subbed off due to an injury.
Leon Goretzka: 7/10
Goretzka had a mixed bag of an outing. He made some mistakes while passing the ball but bombed forward as Sabitzer was stretched out to work as a defensive midfielder. The German midfielder decided to take a shot out of nowhere, and it ended with the opener.
Marcel Sabitzer: 5/10
Sabitzer did not do enough to justify his selection as had a torrid time in the middle of the pitch.
Leroy Sane: 8/10
It was another stupendous performance from the Bayern winger. Often came inside by cutting back, and his buttery skills had the Dortmund players’ hearts in their mouths.
Jamal Musiala: 7.5/10

— Squawka (@Squawka) October 8, 2022
The 19-year-old produced another exemplary display and even dared to make an assist while being tackled. Musiala also had his involvement in the second goal.
Serge Gnabry: 5/10
Gnabry took up a more central role but did not have a good time on the pitch.
Sadio Mane: 6/10
Mane tried to make his stride from his favourite left flank but did not get enough opportunities.
SUBSTITUTES
Josip Stanisic: 5/10
Stanisic had a rare chance on the left side of the Bayern defence but could not really juggle well between his offensive and defensive duties.
Joshua Kimmich: 6/10
Kimmich changed the midfield dynamics with his presence and did a better job than Sabitzer.
Kingsley Coman: 5/10
Coman caused heavy problems as he took on defenders mostly from the left but got the marching order at the 90th minute.
Noussair Mazraoui: 5/10
Mazraoui put in a decent shift.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting: N/A
Did not play enough to warrant a rating.
