According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, the Colombian international isn’t happy at Real Madrid due to lack of game time and is looking for a move away to one of Europe’s other big clubs. However, the report states that he will not be allowed to leave in the upcoming January transfer window, unless a club was willing to pay his release clause.

A few days ago, post Real Madrid’s Club World Cup victory, where he remained an unused substitute, the 25-year-old confirmed that he was considering offers from other clubs, and that hasn’t gone down well with the Madrid hierarchy. It has further distanced him from the managerial as well as the technical staff, so much so that Los Blancos have decided that they will only entertain the idea of his departure only at the end of the season.

In a recent interview with Telefoot, the 18-year-old starlet has recently confirmed that he was subject to interest from Real Madrid a few seasons ago, but rejected the Spanish giants in favour of staying in his native country. Real Madrid sent Zinedine Zidane in 2013 to try and persuade the youngster into joining the club, but he insists he made the right choice in rejecting them, before ultimately moving to Monaco.

“I experienced that like a child who sees the greatest French player in history talk to him,” he said. “He was touching, honest with me. It was a great moment. In the end, I didn’t join Real Madrid because I wanted to stay in my country, I didn’t want to leave so early. It wouldn’t have worked. I chose to come to Monaco and I made the right choice.”

Mbappe turned 18 on the 20th of this month and is one of Europe’s brightest young stars. He made his debut last season in December, thereby becoming the youngest player to make his debut for the club, breaking a record previously held by Thierry Henry. He made 14 impressive appearances in the last campaign, and this season so far he has managed to score 6 goals and register 5 assists from himself in all competitions, helping his side to the second spot on the Ligue 1 table.

Ligue 1 side Rennes have ruled out a possible loan move for the youngster, insisting that he isn’t ready for first team action.  The 18-year-old has failed to have the kind of impact at the Bernabeu that Real Madrid had hoped for, and was in line for a loan move away in order to get more first team minutes under his belt. Rennes were in pole position to sign him.

In the Pleine Lucarne Show on TVR, club president Rene Ruello said that they didn’t sign the Norwegian on the insistence of manager Christian Gourcuff. He said: “Christian looked and said to us: ‘Right now he’s not ready, he needs to work. If we have him for six months, he’s not going to play, or very little, so there’s no interest in doing it. If we have him for 18 months, we’re going to get him up to speed and he’ll leave after that. Rennes aren’t here to bring through players for other clubs.”
