Vinicius Junior has addressed the speculations of being handed a new contract by Real Madrid after his explosive start to the new season.

Speaking to TNT Sports, as relayed by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior has claimed that he is very eager to extend his stay at the club by signing a new contract.

Vinicius Junior signed for Real Madrid in 2018 from Brazilian club Flamengo. The then-teenager arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu with great expectations as he was regarded as the next big thing in South American football.

Vinicius had a slow start to life in Madrid, with a lack of consistency holding him back. However, the 21-year-old has gradually improved over the past three years. He has become an integral member of the first-team setup for the Spanish capital club. The Brazilian international has made 132 appearances for Los Blancos, scoring 23 goals and setting up 28 more.

Despite all the promise he showed, there were constant question marks over the lack of quality in his end product in the final third. However, that changed this season following the blistering start to the campaign that Vinicius has made. In just 14 games in all competitions, the 21-year-old has produced a tally of nine goals and five assists.

Vinicius, along with fellow attacker Karim Benzema, has been critical for Real Madrid to make their ascent to the top of the La Liga table. This has led to talks of a new contract being handed to the seven-time capped Brazilian international, even though his current deal still has close to four years left on it.

Addressing these speculations, the young attacker made it clear that he would be very much happy to sign a contract extension at Real Madrid, irrespective of what he was paid by the club.

“I’m very calm, I want to stay and I don’t care how long my next contract will be or how much they will pay me. All that matters to me is the satisfaction of being in the best club in the world,” Vinicius said.

There is no denying that Vinicius has become one of the first names on the team sheet for Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti in the ongoing campaign. And, a new contract, if offered, would be a well-deserved reward for the former Flamengo ace, who is starting to deliver on his massive potential.
