Chelsea went into the game needing a good performance as they traveled to face Hull for the final game before the international break. Antonio Conte decided to deploy his much-famed 3-5-2 formation with Hazard partnering Costa and surprise inclusion of Moses at right wing-back.
The move worked as the Chelsea defence kept a clean sheet while two second half goals with Willian and Diego with one each to secure a 2-0 win over the Tigers.
Fans hailed Chelsea’s clean sheet while also lauding the manager for the brave choice of going with a 3-man defence.
FT 0-2. Conte’s switch to 3-4-3 yields arguably Chelsea’s most complete performance this season & a first away clean sheet since April #cfc

Conte should’ve stuck with the formation he’s most comfortable with. He should’ve played 3 at the back from the start of the season.

No surprise to hear Conte emphasising the importance of a clean sheet in that today. Credit to him for the success of 3 at the back. #CFC

Great move by Conte. While dropped Ivanovic seems a celebratory excuse, It is structural reform which we should put our spotlight on.

It still is a long time to go before Chelsea hit their stride but they seem to be taking the right steps with the focus first on defensive solidity and then attacking fluidity. As Conte says, it needs work.
